Breaktime snacks

It has been the established practice of the school (for a number of years) that only fruit and vegetables should constitute snacks for children during morning breaktimes. KS1 children have been receiving free fruit and vegetables through a government scheme which has been in operation since 2004. Once children move through into KS2 this practice of encouraging healthy eating continues.

As a school we are very proactive with encouraging healthy eating and this sits very well with the National agenda of encouraging children to eat 5 pieces of fruit or vegetables every day. We therefore only allow children to consume a piece of fruit or vegetables during morning breaktimes in both KS1 and KS2. Anything else other than fruit or vegetables (i.e. cereal bars, chocolate, confectionary etc.) is not allowed.
